Overview:
Responding to events that are outside the normal capacities of an officer’s knowledge can
be crucial to the officer’s survival. Awareness and training can provide the tools to help
mitigate impulsive actions.
Goals:
This course will address (3) three transitional topics at the awareness level of police
involvement that involve on-scene behavioral assessments such as emotionally disturbed
persons, recognition of individuals of altered mental status and indicators of suicide
terrorism. This course is not meant to supersede or change department policies on police
response to critical incidents, but to provide options for the responding officer.
